Congratulations to our 2012-2013 Modern Language Outstanding Students.
It means so much for me to have my oral and written skills in Spanish be recognized as outstandingly proficient. Especially when I studied abroad and was surrounded by native Spanish speakers it was very easy for me to feel like my Spanish was not good enough. This award encourages me to keep pursuing the language by telling me that my efforts so far have been successful. I look forward to continuing to take Spanish classes, learn about Hispanic culture, and visit Spanish-speaking countries after I graduate this May.
I am much honored to have won the Modern Languages Literary Criticism Prize for my outstanding work in literary analysis of text or texts written in a modern language. Over the past couple years, I have fallen in love with the Spanish language and culture, so I love the fact that Millikin offers classes that allow me to study this culture through literary works. Reading and analyzing Spanish literature opens me up to a whole new perspective on people and life, not only in Spain but in the world. I am thankful for the professors at Millikin and in the past that have helped me refine my Spanish writing and language skills. This award has worked to further motivate me in my pursuit of excellence in modern languages.
