Katie Warnick comes to Millikin after teaching seven years at Meridian High School in the English and History Departments. After receiving her B.A. in Social Science Secondary Education from Millikin, Katie continued her education at Illinois State University with a M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, she served as an adjunct faculty member at Millikin prior to becoming a full-time member of the Education Department.
Katie’s interests lie in the integration of literacy within the middle/secondary school content areas. In her courses, Prof. Warnick emphasizes variety of instruction and the importance of teachers creating a positive rapport with their students. She teaches in the traditional and PACE programs covering courses from Introduction to American Education, Early Adolescents in the Schools, Literacy in the Content Areas, Senior Seminar, and Creating Communities of Learners. Prof. Warnick also serves as the faculty advisor for Millikin’s student Illinois Education Association.
In her spare time, Katie enjoys various, interesting adventures with her husband, Joe, a Millikin chemistry graduate, and their two children. She has also been known to read too many young adult novels, spend too much time writing young adult novels, and have a weakness for new recipes that she tests on her unsuspecting family.
