Education & Employment:
Dr. Brown earned his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Accounting from Freed-Hardeman University in 1979, his MBA (Management) from Pepperdine University along with his CPA in 1984, and his Ph.D. in Accountancy-Taxation from the University of Mississippi in 1994. Dr. Brown has over fifteen years of teaching experience. He has also held other positions such as an accountant for Haynes & Jackson CPAs (Memphis), Internal Auditor for Pepperdine University, as well as owning his own business.
Dr. Brown’s paper “Sustainability Reporting: A Financial Statement Comparison” was presented at the 12th Annual Conference of ASBBS (American Society of Business and Behavioral Sciences) in Las Vegas of February 2005 and “Cost Accounting in the Tax Service Business: A Teaching Case” was presented at the Midwest Regional Meeting of the American Accounting Association in St. Louis this past April.
He is now a member of the ATA (American Taxation Association) Family Tax Policy Committee, whose goal is to monitor legislative and regulatory activity for the purpose of identifying topics that would be appropriate for the ATA to make a formal response. Dr. Brown has even offered his expertise to the general public. He volunteered his accounting students to participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) that offers free assistance in filing federal and state tax returns.
