ABOUT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE CENTER (ELC)
Millikin's English Language Center (ELC) prepares international students for admission to Millikin University. The unique integrated learning approach of Millikin's ELC combines English language study with an immersion into the Millikin campus and Decatur community.
In addition to 20 hours of weekly classroom instruction, students will:
- participate in campus-wide activities with Millikin students,
- take field trips,
- engage with guest speakers, and
- complete projects with real-world application.
This process of simultaneously learning and applying academic skills beyond the classroom is known as "performance learning" and is a hallmark of a Millikin University education.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
Millikin's
English Language Center (ELC) is designed for high school graduates
intending to complete their (first) bachelor degree at Millikin.
Students with a TOEFL score below 79 (IBT), 213 (CBT), or 550 (paper
test) should apply directly to Millikin University for conditional
admission. Students will then be placed in one of four levels at the
ELC according to their English language proficiency. Upon successful
completion of Level 4, students will satisfy the English language
proficiency requirements to enroll at Millikin University.
Please see the
International Student Admissions Criteria for information on how to apply.
We look forward to hearing from you and answering any questions you may have.
