Theatre and Dance alum, Drew Nellessen ('07), who is currently appearing in the National Tour of Chicago, made a recent stop in Decatur between engagements in St. Louis and Peoria.  Drew met with senior musical theatre majors to discuss a variety of industry related topics and later taught a Fosse master class to students enrolled in Theatre Dance and upper level Jazz and Ballet classes.   During his visit Drew impressed upon the students how well prepared he felt upon entering the industry and how valuable his Millikin education has been to him.

Drew has had an impressive career since graduation.  His current gig marks his third time out with the national tour of Chicago.  He has also appeared as Diesel and Riff in the international tour of West Side Story and served as the performing dance captain for the recently revised production of Good News at the prestigious Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut.

The Department of Theatre and Dance would like to thank Drew for so generously giving back to Millikin through his time, talent and insight.

Sidney Davis ('14) is one of a small handful of singers selected to join NY singer, actor, teacher and author, Sheri Sanders in a unique, hybrid performance that will blend rock concert with master class.

Sheri Sanders' Rock The Audition vocal technique and accompanying book, Rock the Audition: How to Prepare For and Get Cast In Rock Musicals have taken New York by storm and are quickly becoming the industry standard.  Recognizing the emerging trends in contemporary musical theatre, the Department of Theatre and Dance invited Sheri to Millikin to conduct two separate residencies in this ground-breaking technique.  Students participated in a number of intensive workshops learning to select, cut, style and perform pop/rock songs for musical theatre auditions.  Millikin also became the first university to undergo the Rock The Audition Teacher Training Program, preparing members of the Theatre and Dance and School of Music faculty to teach Sheri's technique.

The relationship Sidney built with Sheri Sanders during these unique residencies led to her being cast in this exciting concert event to be held at the American Theatre of Actors in New York City on September 26th.  Sidney will be performing the iconic disco classic, Don't Leave Me This Way by Thelma Houston.  The Department of Theatre and Dance congratulates Sidney on this impressive achievement.

Mitch Mattson ('04) was recently named Assistant Director of Education at the Roundabout Theatre Company in New York City. A member of the League of Resident Theatres, the Roundabout has a long history of transferring shows to successful Broadway runs including, The 39 Steps, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Cabaret, Anything Goes, The People in the Picture, and Picnic.  Mitch earned his BFA in Musical Theatre at Millikin and his MA in Theatre History and Theory from University of Hawaii.  He will  relocate to NY from Washington D.C. where he was the Community Programs Manager at highly respected Arena Stage. Mitch joins a long list of Millikin alumni who have left a Big Blue mark on the national theatre scene.

MU Alumni Jake Vander Linden ('12) and Jack O'Brien ('13) have been cast in the National Tour of Ghost the Musical.  The tour will open in Schanectady, NY in September and will play St. Louis, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and more.  Jake and Jack will be understudying the two male leads in addition to their ensemble assignments.  We offer a huge congratulations to these fine performers and wish them well on this exciting journey!
