Introduction
You and your group members are attending one of the best medical schools in the world. One of your professors assigns you all the following case study: There are patients that are dead and two that are deathly ill due to some type of nervous system disorder or disease. The staff at the hospital is working long and hard in order to solve the mysterious disorder or disease. They have heard that your particular group of friends is some of the brightest students that have been accepted into the school and they decide to ask for your assistance in solving this mystery. They are looking for a neurologist, pathologist and a forensic investigator to tackle these devastating illnesses. The hospital is hoping that once your team has solved the problem, that you all can present the cases to the hospital administration and staff. In this presentation, it would be incredibly helpful to let the administration and staff know if the condition is curable. If so, please provide for them a method of treatment.
Task
· Research disorders and diseases pertaining to the nervous system
· Create and design a presentation that shows the approach the group took to make the diagnoses
· Research and include the different student roles assigned to the group
· Learn the correct function of the nervous system and the organs and organelles involved with the system
Ways to achieve the task
-Take notes from sources that are researched
-Use the symptoms that are handed out to each group to from a point of origin
- Ask questions to the instructor, each other or other professionals
-Observe the videos on the nervous system
Process (include learner roles):
Step one: Chose a group of four to work with and assign each student one of the four roles.
Step two: Use the student role description and symptom card that the instructor hands out to began research on the particular disorder or disease.
Step three: Use any of the sources to take notes and visual the problem
Step four: Compile all data from your research and present the case to the patient and see if they agree with the diagnoses and treatment, if there is one.
Step five: Present the case to the hospital staff (the class).
Student Roles
Student Physician: These students will research the symptoms that deal with the brain and nerves within the brain.
Pathologist: this student will research the symptoms and work alongside the neurologist. The pathologist’s job is to find the origin of the disease or disorder.
Forensic Investigator: this student’s role is to ensure that scientific principles are used to gather data. The forensic investigator will record all data that is found and compile the data into a report with the help of the team members.
Patient: this student is the decision maker. Since the patient is the one with the disorder or disease, they will be the ones to decide if they want the treatment that the investigation formulates. They will describe why they would take the treatment or why they would not.

What guidance are you providing for students who complete your Web Quest?
I will be providing a handout of the symptoms for each patient in the group ( see attachment).
