Summer Nursing Internship in
Decatur, Illinois 
Millikin University in collaboration with area hospitals

This course is designed to help student nurses to begin to “think like a nurse”.  Methods used to achieve this include working one-on-one with a preceptor on varied nursing units and shifts at local area hospitals/agencies.  The class will discuss topics including but not limited to ethics, “ways of knowing”, communication, end of life issues, decision-making processes along with test taking skills.  The students will also be able to explore specialty units that they may not have been exposed to during their other clinical courses.  Students will be able to develop mentor relationships with experienced nurses, gain experience in critical thinking, assess, organize and develop a professional network.  This course includes both classroom and clinical experience.

Program description:

2 credit nursing course with focus on communication, special populations, NCLEX questions, medical math and more

1 day per week spent in classroom (approx. 5-6 hours/week)

Work 32-40 hours/week

Choice of 2 clinical units for a 4 week rotation on each

At least 2 shifts spent on alternate shift (preferred)

Up to 4 special experience/observational days

 

Eligibility:

Successful completion of at least 2 semesters of an ADN nursing program or Junior year of a BSN nursing program by May 2013 and be in good standing

Overall GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale)

 

Requirements:

Completion of internship application, personal essay and 2 references by application deadline

CPR certification through August 1, 2013
Upon acceptance will need to register for class at Millikin University and complete paperwork at respective facility. 

Submission of transcript from current nursing program (does not need to be official)

 

Dates:

June 3, 2013-July 26, 2013 (8 weeks)
