Judy Parrish is a plant ecologist in her fourteenth year at Millikin, and teaches Local Flora and Fauna in the PACE program. She also teaches Plant Biology, Plant Physiology, Local Flora, Ecology and Evolution, Attributes of Life, and Environmental Biology courses in the traditional program, as well as a summer immersion, Field Ecology, at Lake Shelbyville near Sullivan, and biology travel courses, Ecological Journeys, including Tropical Ecology, centered around field experience in Costa Rica or Ecuador during spring break, and Alaskan and South African Ecology courses some summers. She works with the Millikin School of Education to develop science education curricula, and advises the biology secondary education students. Her research interests include plant community ecology, with emphasis on pollination relationships and niche interactions, in remnant prairies in Illinois, Kansas, and Oklahoma. She is also working with the Illinois Natural History Survey to develop control methods for an invasive species of teasel. Dr. Parrish enjoys hiking, traveling with her family, and watching soccer games.  Her husband, Mark, is a horticulturist and likes to help teach in the field whenever he is available.  They have four grown children and three grandchildren who like to eat plants!
