The Steering Committee, with the approval of the Board of Trustees and Millikin President's Cabinet, have identified the following institutions of higher learning as comparison schools.
Comparison schools were identified based on available data published on the online 2005-2006 IPEDS reports, using the IPEDS Peer Analysis System.

Key criteria for peer comparison schools included:
• Enrollment: fulltime undergraduate population 2000-3000
• Endowment (end-of-year): between $50-$80 million
• Control of Institution: Private, not-for-profit
• Degree-granting status: Degree-granting
• Level of Institution: four or more years
• Academic Institutions only
Key criteria for aspiration comparison schools included:
• Enrollment: fulltime undergraduate population 2000-3000
• Endowment (end-of-year): between $100-$150 million
• Retention rate: at least 75%
• Control of Institution: Private, not-for-profit
• Degree-granting status: Degree-granting
• Level of Institution: four or more years
• Academic Institutions only
