Site: Documenting the American South
Web Author: University of North Carolina
URL: http://metalab.unc.edu/docsouth/index.html
This resource site offers a tremendous repository of original texts and information. The Web site provides a clearinghouse for five ambitious projects: “slave narratives, first-person narratives, Southern literature, Confederate imprints, and materials related to the church in the black community.” Works have been digitized and carefully edited. They include both images and text and are made available in SGML format to better preserve their appearance for research purposes or in HTML format for universal access. If you are interested in the American south, especially slave narratives or Southern literature, you won't want to miss the DAS site.
