Site: Making Heads and Tails of McTeague
Web Author: Daniel Anderson
URL: http://sites.unc.edu/storyforms/mcteague/index.html
This student-created Web site provides resources related to the Frank Norris novel McTeague. It approaches the novel from four perspectives: Naturalism, Love, Class, and Culture (playfully detailed in a section of the Web site titled Pop Goes McTeague). Each section includes stills from Greed, the film version of the novel and offers a close reading of the text in thematic terms. For instance, the section covering class in McTeague discusses issues of social status, the role of social outcasts in the novel and the theme of acquiring wealth. The site provides analysis of the novel, an online version of the text, and a well designed interface that includes an interactive site map and discussion forums for each of the major themes and sections.
