Site: Brief Timeline of American Literature and Events, Pre-1620 to 1920
Web Author: Donna Campbell
URL: http://www.gonzaga.edu/faculty/campbell/enl311/timefram.html
The Brief Timeline covers political and cultural history as well as authors and events in American literature from approximately 1550 to 1929. Set in parallel columns that match events with literary works, each page prior to 1800 covers fifty years, and each page thereafter contains a year-by-year history of the decade and its literature. Included are many links to historical sites, to pages on American authors, and to other American literature sites. To improve speed of loading, this site includes few graphics but has links to many more. It is fully searchable, and it is available in frames and non-frames versions. A new addition to the site provides information about and links to films and original recordings of popular music from 1880-1929, including RealAudio and MIDI files.
