1917 Enters war in France as ambulance driver with Norton Harjes Ambulance Corps. Suspected of disloyalty because of anti-war sentiments, imprisoned by French.
1918 Released from prison and returns to New York City
1919 Daughter Nancy born to Elaine Orr and Cummings
1921 Studies art in Paris
