Several members of the Decatur and Millikin community will participate in the “Penguin in the Park” 5K road race and 1 Mile Walk in Fairview Park. John “the Penguin” Bingham '70 and Coach Jenny Hadfield, from John Bingham Racing, will be there to share advice and memorable running stories. A 10:30 a.m. awards ceremony follows the race.

Chicago - Save the date! Millikin will hold an alumni & friends event in a tent at the Chicago Distance Classic, a half-marathon race organized by running expert John "The Penguin" Bingham '70. Special race perks and discounts are offered to Millikin alums, including gear checks and goodies. “CDC is a race for everyone,” says Bingham, a well-known running expert who travels extensively each year to give his high-in-demand motivational presentations about running. “Think of it as a way to get together with friends for a block party for 13 miles and promote an active, healthy lifestyle.”

Alumni and friends are invited to participate in Bingham’s own Chicago Distance Classic (CDC). The half-marathon will be held Sunday, Aug. 10, in Grant Park, Chicago. Runners, would-be runners and their supporters with Big Blue connections are also invited to join together for MU alumni & friends events related to the race (see at left). 

Registration for the Chicago Distance Classic Half-Marathon and the Wheelchair Half Marathon is $55 through June 30, $65 through Aug. 7. MU alums and immediate family should use code MU08 on the payment page of the registration form to receive a $5 discount per registration. Register at www.chicagodistanceclassic.com/.

Millikin alumni may sign-up in teams of three if they wish. Individual awards will be given to the top female and male MU group members.

In addition, special privileges will be given to the Millikin group on race day, including gear check and goodies after the race in the MU tent. There are also opportunities for non-runner Millikin alums to volunteer at the tent and give support to those participating.
