ALUMS
& FRIENDS:
BE A PART OF HISTORY
Volunteers are needed to assist
with a special Centennial ceremony at Homecoming that
re-enacts two significant events from MU's past: the laying of
the cornerstone of Shilling Hall and the dedication ceremony
featuring an address by President Theodore Roosevelt. We've
got a Teddy and we've got Founder James Millikin, what we need
is YOU! Want to help? You'll need to dress in period clothing
(circa early 1900s), and be available to be a part of the
ceremony at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, on the front lawn of
Shilling Hall. For more information or to volunteer, call
Jackie McFadden in the alumni and development office at
217-424-3769 or send an e-mail to jmcfadden@mail.millikin.edu.

TRIVIA CONTESTS KEEP
YOUR BRAIN SHARP.
That's our story and
we're sticking to it.
In last month's trivia contest, Matt Sprague '02, Jennifer
Friday '77, Jerilyn Green Hudson '95,
Becky Langmeyer '02, Ken Harm '52 and Julia Wall White '80 were the first
six alumni to correctly
answer that official Millikin University seal
contains several symbols within it: The lighted torch of learning;
a shield representing the university as defender and
champion of learning; and an equilateral triangle to represent the trinity of mind,
body and spirit, as well as the equality and unity of all
branches of learning. Whew. (And if you hold the seal upside
down and squint at it real hard, word has it you can see James
Millikin holding a fishing rod).
Ready
to try your luck? This month, we have a visual contest. Click here to
view a photo taken on campus. Okay, quick now! What building
is it?
Send your
answer to alumnews@mail.millikin.edu;
be sure to include your name and address. The first five
correct responders each win a Millikin gewgaw. And the
first person to write and define "gewgaw" wins
a little something, too!
