MILLIKIN
REMEMBERS.
The
Millikin community gathered together Sept. 11 to remember our
nation's resiliency and to celebrate our country. That
evening, students and employees gathered at a memorial bench
in front of Kirkland Fine Arts Center to place flowers, flags
and other items on the bench in a public display of support
for U.S. servicemen and women. Following
that, there was a march to Mills quad for a remembrance
celebration that featured performances of patriotic selections
by various Millikin students and concluded with a moment of
silence and reflection.
RUMMAGE
AROUND
FOR A GOOD CAUSE
Millikin's Greek community
will host its annual Greek Giveback Rummage Sale to benefit
local charities on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on

LOCAL TALENT NEEDED.
Area alumni and friends: We're having a
cast party Thursday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m.
in the Parquet Room of Richards Treat University
Center. Why? Volunteers are needed to assist
with a special Centennial ceremony at Homecoming that
re-enacts two significant events from MU's past: the laying of
the cornerstone of Shilling Hall and the dedication ceremony
featuring an address by President Theodore Roosevelt. Want to help?
All actors must dress in period clothing
(circa early 1900s) to be part of the
ceremony at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, on the front lawn of
Shilling Hall. For more information or to volunteer, call
Jackie McFadden in the alumni and development office at
217-424-3769 or send an e-mail to jmcfadden@mail.millikin.edu.
LET'S
GET JUDGMENTAL.
Coming to Homecoming?
Perhaps you'd like to volunteer to be a "judge" for
the student spirit games on campus from noon to 2 p.m. on
Friday, Oct. 17. Judges are also needed for the Homecoming
parade, which will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 18. To
volunteer to be our very own Big Blue Judge Judy, send an
e-mail to Rachel Reimer of the student Homecoming committee at
RReimer@mail.millikin.edu.
YOUR "DOG" COULD EVENTUALLY HELP PAY FOR A STUDENT'S
BOOKS.

association (Millikin Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow), is

scholarship for deserving students. So bring your appetite and
chow down anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday,
Sept. 27, during the Fall Family Weekend street festival; hot dogs, veggie
burgers, potato salad, beans and a drink are included. Cost is
$5 per person. Come support the Alumni Association and then
enjoy Big Blue Football vs. Anderson at 1 p.m.
DON'T SMOTHER THAT LAUGHTER.

Last month, Traci
Jensen '99, Eric Nathan Brady '03, Ryan Senger '99, Jami Wong
'01 and Neal Frederiksen '70 all correctly named Scovill Hall
as the building in our first-ever photo trivia contest.
Congrats to all for their sharp eyes. And let's not forget Jo
Ann Wirey '93, who won the honor AND a gewgaw for being the
first to respond and define gewgaw (a little trinket or
bauble).
Ready
to try your luck? This month we have a two-part stumper for
you:

to as "Big Blue?"

C) 1923
What professor is credited with first using the term
"Big Blue?"
