April 25: on campus
Millikin RAs sponsor a day of cleanup, repairs and landscaping for campus. Volunteers should report to the Arrival Court anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more info, send an e-mail to

April 30: on campus
Millikin celebrates Founder's Day with an outdoor lunch on the arrival court, student activities and the formal laying of a wreath on James Millikin's gravesite.

May 1: on campus 
Founder's Day activities continue with a day of service as more than 60 youth from the Decatur Boys and Girls Club come to campus for an afternoon of student-organized activities beginning at 1:30 p.m. Alumni and their families are invited to attend and have fun and/or volunteer to help. Aug. 4-8: on campus
A reunion of track & field alumni will be held at the USATF Masters men's and women's outdoor track & field championships on campus Aug. 4-8. Click

Aug. 22: Chicago
Order your tickets now for Millikin Day at
U.S. Cellular Field as the Chicago White Sox take on the Boston Red Sox. Seats are located in section 533 starting at row 11, in the upper box behind home plate. Tickets are $22 each and will go fast, so call soon. Call toll-free to 1-877-JMU-ALUM (locally, dial 424-6383).  

Oct. 8- 10: 
Homecoming on campus
All alums are welcome to come on back to the Big Blue for Homecoming, and special reunions will be held for all classes whose years end in 4 or 9. Learn more

Percussionist Megan Timpe of St. Louis was named recipient of the School of Music’s prestigious Hollis Prize during a recital April 3 in Perkinson Music Center. MORE

Currying favor at commencement
Julie Curry, deputy chief of staff for labor and economy for the Illinois governor's office, will speak at this year's commencement ceremony, to be held Sunday, May 23, at Decatur Civic Center. Baccalaureate speaker is Father Nick Smith of St. Louis, a 1983 Millikin graduate. MORE

TAD HILGENBRINCK, COME ON DOWN! 

Set the VCR for TV's "The Price Is Right" on May 4 to see 2003 grad Tad Hilgenbrinck and Travis Mahrt '02 in the audience. Is Tad chosen to "come on down"? Does he win the showcase showdown? Tune in to find out. Tad, an L.A. actor, also appeared this season in a co-starring role on ABC-TV's "It's All Relative."

NY times turns to Mu 
for info about entrepreneurship.  
Professor Sharon Alpi, director of the Center for Entrepreneurship, was quoted and Millikin's Tabor School and SCORE chapter were cited as favorable models in a recent New York Times article about college entrepreneurship programs. Other schools featured in the article were Harvard University, M.I.T. and George Washington University. MORE

Sophomore Katherine Marlin of Urbana is one of only 25 college students worldwide to receive a $1,300 scholarship from the International Games Developers Association (IGDA to attend a Game Developers Conference in San Jose, Calif. MORE

English Professor Randy Brooks and his students collaborated to edit and publish a book collection of poetry, "Deep Shade Flickering Sunlight: Selected Haiku of Mabson Southard." MORE

This summer, Millikin offers an innovative new camp for high school athletes and coaches. Total Athlete Camp is designed for athletes looking to develop their sports skills, leadership ability, healthy lifestyles, strength, agility and mobility. MORE

WILL HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF?

Millikin's OneVoice vocal group competes April 25 in the finals of the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella in New York, going up against groups from Cornell University and Syracuse University, among others. OneVoice was previously named Midwest regional champion. Meanwhile, Chapter 6, a group of Millikin alumni who were named 2001 Grand Champions in that same competition, heads to the  May 8 Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival, a national competition held in San Rafael, Calif., that is considered to be the premier American showcase for vocal harmony music.
