Important dates

Aug. 22: Chicago
Last chance to get tickets for Millikin Day at
U.S. Cellular Field as the Chicago White Sox take on the Boston Red Sox at 7 p.m. Sit with the Big Blue group in section 533 in the upper box behind home plate. Tickets are $22 each. Call toll-free to 1-877-JMU-ALUM (locally, dial 424-6383).  

Aug. 28: on campus
Men's alumni soccer game on campus, Saturday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m. on the south field. Players check-in and begin warming up at 4 p.m. Following the game, an informal social gathering will be held at Lock, Stock and Barrel from 7-9 p.m. on the patio. Interested alumni should contact Coach Craig Lee at 217-424-3607
or by e-mail.  

Aug. 28: St. Louis 
St. Louis-area alumni are invited to come out to hear  56 Hope Road perform at 10 p.m. at the Venice Cafe, 1903 Pestalozzi St. The band features MU alums Greg Fundis '99, Steve Goveia '99, Dave Hamilton '96, Anne Hamilton Katzfey '94, Matt Katzfey '96 and Chad Sanders '99. 

Sept. 4: Chicago
CHICAGO FIRE SOCCER TEAM vs. DC UNITED! 7:30 p.m. Join Millikin alumni and friends to see 15 year old phenom Freddy Adu, when he and DC United return to Solider Field on Labor Day weekend. This event was arranged by Millikin Soccer alum, Eric Luchetti '01, who works for the Fire. Tickets are $20 each and may be obtained by calling Luchetti at 312-705-7208 or through e-mail at eluchetti@chicago-fire.com.

Sept. 24: Chicago area 
Young alumni & friends event: Join us from 6:30-9 p.m. at
Curragh Irish Pub, 1700 Woodfield Rd., Schaumburg. Appetizers provided. RSVPs appreciated, but not required. The young at heart are also welcome! RSVP at alumnews@millikin.edu

Oct. 8-10: 
Homecoming on campus
All alums are welcome to come on back to the Big Blue for Homecoming, and special reunions will be held for all classes whose years end in 4 or 9. Learn more

Nov. 6: Elmhurst, Ill.
The Annual
Howard Nyberg Football Party immediately follows the 1 p.m. Millikin football game vs. Elmhurst University and will be held at Good Times, 675 W. North (northwest corner of North Ave. and Rt. 83), Elmhurst, phone 630-833-3534. The cost for this Millikin Club of Chicago event is $8 per person (children under age 6 are $4 each). IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL TIME!
First week for freshmen is Aug. 25-30. While freshmen get their feet wet, Oakland Avenue will be closed to traffic from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25, for move-in day.

LEMON SHAKE-UP, ANYONE?
Millikin made a strong showing at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield on Friday, Aug. 13. The Millikin contingent, featuring various MU performers and representatives from the alumni, student life and admission offices, welcomed Big Blue alumni and friends and distributed free water in the special event tent, located just inside Gate 2. The day was made possible by Josh Jacobs '02, who works for the state fair and was in charge of the tent.

Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra will perform their Labor Day Pops concert on Monday, Sept. 6, at 6 p.m. on the shores of Lake Decatur at the Nelson Park Amphitheater. MORE

This year's unusually cool summer temperatures in Illinois were not cool enough for these students, so they headed north. MORE  

KUETERMAN NAMED HEAD SWIM COACH.
Former MU swimmer Paul Kueterman '02 has been named the Big Blue's head swim coach. In addition to coaching, Kueterman will also teach in the exercise science & sport department. MORE  

TABOR PICKS UP SPEED.
The Tabor Center for Entrepreneurship is helping to  launch a new initiative to accelerate entrepreneurship in Central Illinois. MORE
