FORMER
HOUSEKEEPING DIRECTOR DIES.
The university
community mourns the June 9 death of Pauline Phillips of
Decatur, legendary director of housekeeping at MU until her
retirement in 1988 after 24 years at the university. Her
direct contact with the students in the residence halls often
put her in the role of surrogate mother during her
career, and her positive influence affected hundreds of
Millikin students. In recognition of her extraordinary impact
on the university, she was inducted into the inaugural centennial
class of the Millikin Medallion Society in 2001. The family
has suggested that memorials be made to the Pauline Phillips Scholarship
Fund, 1184 W. Main Street, Decatur, Ill., 62522. The fund was
established by African-American alumni in recognition of
Phillips several years ago.

THE
TEACHING NEVER STOPS.

the new crop of Millikin teaching grads by sharing your
wisdom. Advice from you could help get their experience off on
the right foot. In
the fall issue of Millikin Quarterly, we’ll celebrate the
annual tradition of going back to school by publishing tips
from those who devote their energy and talents to teaching.
From the humorous to the very serious, all bits of advice are
welcome. Send submissions to MillikinQuarterly@millikin.edu.
Be sure to include your name, address, telephone and e-mail
address (if applicable). All submissions are due Friday, July
16. And don’t forget to let us know the facts about where,
what and whom you teach. Excerpts
will be published in the magazine and all submissions will be
posted to the Millikin alumni and friends website.
