BELOVED FORMER
HOUSEKEEPING DIRECTOR DIES
.
The university community mourns the June 9 death of Pauline Phillips of Decatur, legendary director of housekeeping at MU until her retirement in 1988 after 24 years at the university. Her direct contact with the students in the residence halls often put her in the role of surrogate mother during  her career, and her positive influence affected hundreds of Millikin students. In recognition of her extraordinary impact on the university, she was inducted into the inaugural centennial class of the Millikin Medallion Society in 2001. The family has suggested that memorials be made to the Pauline Phillips Scholarship Fund, 1184 W. Main Street, Decatur, Ill., 62522. The fund was established by African-American alumni in recognition of Phillips several years ago.
