Decatur - Alumni and friends are invited to a closing reception for the art exhibit "Painter As Mentor: Lyle Salmi" on from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Decatur Area Arts Council (see details, above).
Sunday, Sept. 10
Decatur - Join the Millikin CIA (Central Illinois Alumni) for a pig roast from 4-7 p.m. at the home of Kathy Farleigh Gresham '70 and her husband, Jim. Proceeds will establish a scholarship fund for area students attending Millikin. MORE (This link is a PDF.)
Saturday, Sept. 30
On campus- The Alumni Board will host a food booth at Fall Family Weekend on campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. All proceeds go to a award given to the senior who has done the most to enhance student and alumni relations. For more info or to volunteer your help, call the alumni office at 424-6383.
Friday-Sunday, Oct. 13-15
On campus - Homecoming! Join us for some special surprises this year, including group reunions for engineering alumni, black alumni, choir alumni, members of the '61 football team, mid-century musicians (1945-55), SAEs of the '50s and '60s and all classes ending in 1 and 6. Sunday, Oct. 22
St. Louis - Join the Millikin Club of St. Louis for a 1 p.m. trivia contest fundraiser at Blueberry Hill, 6504 Delmar Blvd. Teams will be made up of six people. The cost is $25 per person and includes entry fee, hors d'oeuvres and beverages. All proceeds support the Gateway Scholarship for a deserving student from the St. Louis or Metro-east area. Saturday, Nov. 4
Elmhurst, IL - The annual Howard Nyberg football party will be held at the home of Matt Proud '90. This year's event is a pre-game tailgate preceding the 1 p.m. Big Blue vs. Elmhurst game. Watch your mailbox and the fall issue of Millikin Quarterly magazine for more details.
Saturday, Nov. 11
Decatur - The Millikin CIA host a football chili supper following the 1 p.m. Big Blue vs. Augustana football game. The supper will be held in Richards Treat University Center on campus. Cost is $7.50 per meal and includes chili, hot dogs, hamburgers and salad bar. Children under age 6 eat free.

For the 14th straight year, U.S. News & World Report magazine has named Millikin University as one of the best comprehensive colleges in the Midwest. The September issue of Golf Digest gives national recognition to the Big Blue golf program's accomplishments as well as Millikin's overall academic quality. MORE
DECATUR NATIVE AND FRIENDS TO FILL KIRKLAND WITH SMOOTH JAZZ.
A Sept. 8 smooth jazz showcase in Kirkland Fine Arts Center will feature five artists, including the nationally recognized jazz instrumentalist, Brian Culbertson, a Decatur native, as well as performers Alan Hewitt, Eric Darius, Nick Colionne and Marion Meadows. The show is a fundraiser to kick off a My Pocket Music Foundation initiative to provide music/art lessons, music camps and scholarships for underpriviledged students. MORE

This year's Homecoming, set to the theme, "The Road to Blue," will be held Oct. 13-15 on campus. Several new events should help make this year's Homecoming one of the best ever. EARLY DETECTION.
An Oct. 21 benefit concert by Olivia Newton-John in Kirkland Fine Arts Center has sold out just a few days after tickets went on sale. Newton-John is being brought to Decatur by Millikin and Decatur Memorial Hospital to help benefit the DMH Women’s Health & Breast Center for early detection of breast cancer through digital mammography. The actress-singer has made the fight against breast cancer a personal initiative since her own diagnosis and recovery from the illness in the 1990s. MORE
MAJOR ART EXHIBIT DEBUTS AT MILLIKIN.
More than four dozen works by the nationally recognized artist Seymour Fogel (1911-1984) will be exhibited Oct. 1-20 in Kirkland Fine Arts Center, with an opening reception planned for 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 5. The reception is free and open to public and will feature comments from the artist's son. The Kirkland exhibit is the first major display of the artist's work since his death more than 20 years ago.
