Nationwide - A book event held at Millikin will air on C-SPAN 2's BookTV from 7:45 to 10 a.m. and then again at 10:30 p.m. Jenny Spinner '92 and her twin sister, Jackie Spinner, collaborated on Jackie's new book, "Tell Them I Didn't Cry," about Jackie's experiences as a Washington Post journalist stationed in war-torn Iraq. At the end of each chapter, Jenny, an English professor at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, gives the home front perspective, describing her concern for her sister's safety. C-SPAN filmed the sisters reading excerpts from the book and answering questions from the audience in Kirkland Fine Arts Center on March 6.

On campus - Child Abuse Prevention Week, sponsored by Millikin's Behavioral Sciences Association, is April 7-12. The student organization is raising donations for the Macon County Child Advocacy Center, an organization that works with abused children in Macon County. On campus - Congressman Pete Hoekstra, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, will give the Thomas W. Ewing Lectureship April 11. The lectureship was created by Millikin and Congressman Ewing's colleagues in recognition of his many years of public service. Ewing, a 1957 graduate, retired in 2001 after serving nine years in the U.S. House of Representatives from the 15th District of Illinois. Previously, Ewing served 17 years in the Illinois House of Representatives, where he was assistant Republican leader of the House from 1982-1990 and was named deputy minority leader in leader in 1990. BODMAN VISITS MILLIKIN.
Secretary of Energy Samuel W. Bodman, son of the late Lina Lindsey Bodman '29, visited campus on Feb. 22. He discussed the president's current energy plans and took several questions from the audience before taking a brief tour of campus.

Dr. Timothy Johnson, the ABC medical editor who appears on the popular news program, "Good Morning America," is the 2006 T.W. Samuels lecturer. Nine senior musical theatre students are performing in the 2006 Musical Theatre Showcase on Monday, March 27, at 7 p.m. at The York Theatre in St. Peters in New York. The showcase, which is open to the public for the first time, is introduced by Carey Anderson '01, currently starring in "Mamma Mia" on Broadway, and will also feature students from partner school Kent State University. An alumni and friends gathering will follow the showcase at 9 p.m. at The House of Brews, formerly BB Doyle's Irish Pub and Restaurant, on 51st and 8th. MilliSTAT (Students Today - Alumni Tomorrow) will sponsor a week of philanthropy April 2-10. Planned events include participation in the annual spring alumni phonathon for the Millikin Fund, a bake sale on campus and a concert featuring student and alumni performers. The proceeds of the week's events will go to the Millikin Fund and two after school tutoring and mentoring programs for underprivileged students, G.U.M. Park and Homework Hangout. MORE
