Millikin Fund sets fundraising record

Thanks to generous alumni, parents and friends, Millikin University is celebrating its best annual fundraising year in history – with $2,420,665 raised in support of operations at Millikin.

“It is gratifying to see that our constituents across the board continue to believe Millikin is a sound investment for their charitable dollar,” says Director of Development Dave Brandon. “We work hard to be good stewards of that philanthropy, too, spending only $.06 to raise a dollar in the Millikin Fund. This means that 94 percent of every dollar given is used to support what makes Millikin great – a small student to professor ratio, excellent technology and library resources, scholarships for deserving students and a beautiful campus.

“Compare Millikin to the national average of $.25 per dollar raised and it is clear that we are very efficient and your charitable dollar goes much farther here.”

Small private universities, like Millikin, will always rely on the benevolence of their donors to “bridge the gap” between what the university can realistically charge for tuition and the actual cost of delivering a Millikin education, Brandon says.

“We want to extend a big THANK YOU to those who support the university financially and also send the message that every gift, no matter the amount, has a purpose at Millikin,” says Brandon.

The record-setting year comes on the heels of Millikin's most successful capital campaign in its history, "Advancing the Vision."  Donors committed more than $128 million in that campaign, exceeding the goal by more than $8 million.
