50th Anniversary Vespers Celebration (1949-2008), reception from 12:30-2:30 p.m. in Richard Treat University Center (immediately preceding the 3 p.m. Vespers performance in Kirkland Fine Arts Center), hosted by Dr. Brad Holmes, director of choral activities, and featuring special guest speaker Kay Hoffland, wife of the late Richard Hoffland, founding director of the Vespers concerts. Alumni who have performed at Vespers through the years are especially encouraged to join us for this complimentary event! Europe
Join Millikin alumni and friends for an eight-day, seven-night trip to Vienna, Prague and Budapest. Highlights include visits to the St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague, Fisherman's Bastion in Buda and St. Charles Church in Vienna. The cost is about $2,500 per person (plus fees and insurance) for double occupancy and includes hotel accommodations, round-trip airfare and coach travel from Central Illinois, a highlight dinner in Vienna, breakfasts and dinners and a $50 gift is made to the Millikin Fund for every trip booked. CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2008!
More than 400 undergraduates and 20 master’s degree students walked across the stage at this year's spring commencement ceremonies held this past weekend, including one of the youngest graduates in Millikin history. MORE

Thanks to the outstanding fundraising efforts of the class of 2008, who raised several thousand dollars to purchased equipment that will provide free, permanent e-mail addresses for all Millikin alumni as their senior class gift. Because of their efforts, all alumni will soon be able to display their Big Blue pride and get access to Millikin networks on social networking groups, such as Facebook. Classes of 2007 and 2008 will keep their current Millikin e-mail address and other alumni will be able to get a free Millikin e-mail account. Watch for more information in future issues.

CARE TO TANGO?
Kirkland Fine Arts Center, the Decatur Park District, Decatur 501 Club, Cromwell Radio Group and 9:01 Club are sponsoring "Tango Decatur," a Decatur-area community event to be held in February 2009. The event features a Guinness World Record attempt for couples dance, downtown restaurant walk, master class workshops with Tiempo Tango Chicago and an evening performance at Kirkland Fine Arts Center. As a part of the fifth anniversary of PACE, Millikin’s adult education program, five alumni and three faculty members were recognized with awards. MORE
CARDS VS. CUBS. WHAT COULD BE BETTER?
Less than 15 tickets remain for Millikin Day at Busch Stadium, Sunday, July 6, as the St. Louis Cardinals take on top rival Chicago Cubs at 1:10 p.m. The seats are right outside and include access to the air-conditioned Bank of America Clubhouse. Round trip transportation, including beverages and snacks, from Decatur to the game is also available for $25 per person. Be sure to let the alumni office know if you are interested.
THE BEST OF THE BEST.
Eight students received the Scovill Prize during the annual honors convocation program in April. The highest student award for overall excellence at Millikin, Scovill Prizes are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and service, with major consideration given to scholarship. Several faculty members were also recognized for excellence and their outstanding contributions to the university with four awards presented during the annual honors convocation program in April. MORE
Additionally, Dr. Eduardo Cabrera was recently selected to receive the Order of the Descubridores Award from Sigma Delta Pi, a national Spanish Honor Society. MORE

The University Choir is performing in China and Taiwan during a 12-day tour May 19-31 as part of the 2008 American Celebration of Music in China. The choir is performing special concerts at Tunghai University in Taichung, Taiwan, and the Subsidiary Experimental School of Northeast Normal University in Changchun, China, and will also perform joint concerts with school choirs in Shenzhen and Beijing and at the Great Wall of China.
