Two alumni speak at commencement ceremonies.

Julie Roe Lach '97, vice president of enforcement for the NCAA, will be the speaker at the commencement ceremony held Sunday, May 20, at the Decatur Civic Center. Case McGee '98/MBA '04, vice president of human resources for North America and Global Compensation at Archer Daniels Midland Co., will speak at the PACE/MBA commencement ceremony, Saturday, May 19, at Kirkland Fine Arts Center.

MU celebrates students next week.  

Millikin's annual showcase of outstanding student research and creativity, the Celebrations of Scholarship, will begin Thursday, April 26, at 7 p.m. with Honors Convocation in the Kirkland Fine Arts Center. Presentations and focus panels will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday and continue throughout the day. Free and open to the public.

"Flags of Our Fathers" author speaks on campus.

James Bradley, author of the best-selling historical nonfiction books, "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Flyboys," will speak at Kirkland Fine Arts Center tonight at 7:30 p.m. Released as a major motion picture in 2007, "Flags of Our Fathers" tells the story of the six soldiers who raised the American flag on Iwo Jima, one of whom was Bradley's father, John Bradley.

 
CANCELED: Chicago-area alumni career workshop.

The free career workshop/networking event scheduled for Thursday, April 19, at Deloitte Conference Center has been canceled due to a small turnout. We are sorry, but we must have chosen a busy night! We hope to reschedule the event for a later date. If you were planning to seek career advice at the event, please call Jan Devore at the alumni office at 1-877-JMU-ALUM (568-2586), and she will have one of our alumni HR experts follow up with you.

Founder’s Day celebration planned for April 29.

Millikin alumni and friends are invited to a celebration of the university's founding at a free Founder's Day picnic at the James Millikin Homestead on Sunday, April 29, from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Join students, faculty, staff and alums for a free lunch, entertainment provided by the Millikin Men, tours of the homestead and the traditional wreath-laying ceremony. The Homestead, once home to James and Anna Millikin, is located at 125 North Pine, just a few blocks east of campus.

Hollis Prize recipient to perform Chicago recital.

Aaron Villarreal, a junior percussionist from Decatur and winner of Millikin's 10th annual Hollis Prize Competition held on campus will perform a recital on Friday, April 20, at 12:15 p.m. at Chicago's Harold Washington Library, located at 400 S. State St.

"Suspension" painting by Anna Niebrugge '12

Join Effingham-area alumni and friends for a reception Tuesday, May 8, from 5-7 p.m. at Village Wine and Gifts, 109 S Banker Street, Effingham, Ill., 217-347-0477. Complimentary refreshments will be served, and paintings by senior art major Anna Niebrugge '12 of Effingham will be on display.

Help honor the Bibber’s legacy.

Several alumni are leading the charge to establish an endowed scholarship in honor of Rick Bibb, retiring professor of marketing. The Rick Bibb Scholarship will be awarded annually to a junior or senior Tabor School of Business student with a 3.0 GPA who demonstrates leadership, a passion for marketing and an interest in international study while at Millikin. The goal is to fully endow the scholarship by raising at least $10,000.

OneVoice to perform in Grafton

Mark your calendars to hear MU's award-winning OneVoice in concert on Saturday, May 5, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. as they make a return visit to the Grafton Winery & Brewhaus, 300 W. Main Street, Grafton. Refreshments provided, cash bar, dinner on your own. Hosted by Dave Roth '63 and the Millikin Club of St. Louis.

 
Join Millikin Day this July at Busch Stadium.

Join alumni and friends as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium on Saturday, July 21, at 3 p.m. We'll have great seats in the Redbird Row Party Suites (right field, Rooms 215 and 216).

  • Cost is $150 per person and includes a two-hour, all-you-can-eat buffet including beverages of the adult and non-adult variety. For more info, contact the alumni and development office.
  • Tickets can be purchased online.
  • Live in the Decatur area? Make it an all-inclusive trip and let us do the driving! A motorcoach from Decatur to St. Louis will be available at an additional cost of $25 per person.
 
Make it a musical summer for your child.

Live in the Decatur area and have a child interested in music? Enroll your children in one of the Preparatory Department's summer music camps. Alumni families are eligible for a 10 percent discount upon showing an Alumni Association membership card.
