Nearly 500 new graduates will be joining the ranks of Millikin alumni after commencement ceremonies are held this weekend.

On Saturday, approximately 100 total MBA and PACE graduates will receive their diplomas. That will be followed by a Sunday commencement ceremony at the Decatur Civic Center during which nearly 400 traditional graduates will receive their degrees. Both events require tickets for admission.

Several events are scheduled leading up to the ceremonies for the soon-to-be Millikin alumni, including a graduates dinner hosted by President Jeffcoat, a senior class picnic, an MBA reception and more, including a recently added tradition - a candlelight ceremony on campus for the graduating seniors. Millikin challenges you to participate in 10 hours of service this summer any time from June 1 - Aug. 31. This is a great opportunity to give back to your local community and can be done individually, with family/friends, or through your employer-sponsored social responsibility days.

Here's how:

  • Complete 10 hours or more of service in your local community
  • Engage others in service whenever possible. (This includes: family, friends, other Millikin alumni in your area and co-workers.)
  • Wear a Millikin shirt while participating in service and take photos if possible.
  • Email your photos to career-center@millikin.edu . And follow us on Facebook at "Millikin Serves" and "Millikin University Career Center" to post updates about your service. We'll highlight service accomplishments in the fall issue of Millikin Quarterly magazine and those who participate will be entered in a prize drawing.

Need ideas for service projects/sites? Contact the Career Center at career-center@millikin.edu or go to www.volunteermatch.org to find out about opportunities in your community.

The campus was thriving with even more activity than usual in late April during the annual Honors Convocation and Celebrations of Scholarship (CoS) presentations. Ngozi Onuora, instructor of education, was this year's Distinguished Faculty Lecturer.
