Paul J. Shea, age 88 of Greenville, passed away 10:57 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2011, in Fair Oaks Nursing Home, Greenville.
Paul Joseph Shea, the son of Louis M. and Teresa Genevieve (Evans) Shea, was born March 18, 1923 in Decatur, Illinois. Paul attended the St. Patrick's Grade School and graduated from the St. Teresa High School. Mr. Shea graduated from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois and then got his graduate degree from the University of Illinois.
Paul answered his country's call to duty by joining the United State Army. He served from 1942-1946 and served in the Battle of Bulge.
After returning home from service, on June 28, 1948, he was united in marriage to Catherine Lorraine Wolfe in Decatur, Illinois. They had 51 years together before her passing on August 29, 2000. They lived in Greenville where Paul coached basketball, baseball, track, was the athletic director and served as assistant high school principal and then principal in Greenville. He retired in 1983 and spent many years traveling.
Mr. Shea started a Summer Recreation Program in 1959 which was evolved into the Kingsbury Park District. He served as director until 1975.
Surviving are his sons; Thomas Shea and wife Sylvia of Greenville, Gerald Shea and wife Ruth of Charlottesville, VA and Patrick Shea of Grays Lake, Illinois. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren; Carrie, Kevin and Kristen.
Mr. Shea was preceded in death by his parents, wife Catherine and their daughter Catherine in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
