Redland Daily Facts (Redlands, Calif.)

Loretta Ann Martin passed away in Redlands surrounded by her family on July 15, 2011 at the age of 91. Loretta was born in Lovington, IL on July 7, 1920.

She was the oldest of 5 children born to Mary Ellen and Rex Boggs. She graduated from Lovington High School at the age of 16 and at age 18 received her teaching credential from Normal, IL Teachers' College. Loretta taught grades K thru 12 in a one room school house in Lake City, IL until she enrolled at Milliken University in Decatur, IL and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. It was there she met her husband, Charles Harry Martin, from Robinson, IL. They were married April 24, 1944 before Lt. Martin, U.S. Army Air Force, was sent to Alaska's Aleutian Islands as a cryptographer during WWII.

In December 1957, Harry and Loretta moved to Redlands, CA with their two children, Mickey and Greg Martin, to be closer to her mother, Mary Ellen Boggs, sister, Rosemary Forsberg and brother, John Boggs.

Harry worked for Forsberg and Gregory Contractors and Loretta started teaching at Sacred Heart Elementary School until the birth of her third child, Terry. Loretta was a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader, a 54-year member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Altar Society, the Sacred Heart Parent Teacher Group, Mission Circle, Meals on Wheels, and a Kimberly Junior mom.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Harry Martin, in 1986 and her infant granddaughter, Jody LeVan, her sister Adabel (Al) Reining, brothers

Bill (Mary) Boggs and John (Mary) Boggs, niece, Judy Reining and nephew, Christopher Long. Survivors include her three children, Mickey (Mike) Butler, Terry (Rick) LeVan, and Greg (Terry) Martin. She also leaves 10 grandchildren: Ann (Terry) Smith, Patrick (Natalie) Hardy, Alice (Damien) Mitchell, Erik Martin, Matt (Michelle) Martin, Kristine (David) Westman, Sara LeVan, Lindsey LeVan, Patrick (Dawn) Butler, Erin (Douglas) Portmore and 9 great-grandchildren: Alexis, Zachariah and Hailey Smith, Mychael Mitchell, Tyler and Katie Martin, Fiona Portmore, JT Bossler and Lacie Deprim.
She also is survived by her sister, Rosemary Forsberg, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Loretta was an inspirational teacher, homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She was the rock of the family and will be missed by all of her family and friends.
