Charlotte Eloise Underwood, 85, of Maroa, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at her home with husband Bob by her side.
Charlotte was born in Decatur, IL on Dec. 18, 1925, the daughter of Charles and Lena Creekmur. She married her husband of 58 years Robert (Bob) Underwood on March 28, 1953.
Charlotte graduated from Maroa High School, attended Millikin University, and worked as a secretary at the high school and Decatur Memorial Hospital in her early life. She wrote a weekly column and took pictures for the Maroa Prairie Post. She was involved for many years with the organizations and committees such as the American Legion Auxiliary, D.A.R., Maroa Women’s Club, PTA, Wednesday Bridge Club, Millikin Sorority, Maroa Forsyth Alumni Association, Cub Scouts, and many, many more, for if there was a volunteer needed in the community she was the first to commit.
Charlotte’s main focus in life was supporting her family and she especially relished her role of cheering at the many bowling events she attended over the years. She was always there for Bob and when her health failed he was there for her. Charlotte was a dedicated member of the Maroa United Methodist Church and sang in the choir and at weddings and funerals for many years.
Charlotte is survived by her husband Bob; her children: Rich Underwood and wife Candy of Saybrook, IL, Jim Underwood and wife April of Maroa, IL, and Kenny Underwood of Maroa, IL. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and special cousins, the Young’s.
Charlotte’s strong will and faith helped her as she was preceded in death by her brother Robert Creekmur, sons David Earles and Gary Underwood, and grandson Dillon Underwood.
Memorials are suggested to Maroa United Methodist Church or Maroa Forsyth Alumni Association.
