Michael Patrick McNamara, 71, of Decatur passed away at 12:35 a.m. Friday, August 05, 2011, at Lincoln Manor Nursing Home with his family by his side.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Mike’s life will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2011, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 3850 Lourdes Dr., Decatur. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the mass at the church. Interment will be in Harristown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or St. Teresa High School Athletic Department.
Mike was born June 11, 1940, in Decatur, the son of J.D. and Mary (Creamer) McNamara. He received his bachelor’s degree from Millikin University where he was a standout baseball player. He was an insurance agent with Prudential for twenty-five years where he was a top producer. He also owned and operated McNamara & Murray Insurance Agency.
He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, a 4th degree with the Knights of Columbus, and the Decatur Breakfast Optimist Club. He was an avid sports fan and golfer. The St. Louis Cardinals have lost their number one fan. He got a hole in one on #13 at Hickory Point. He married Martha Huhne June 9, 1962 in Decatur.
Mike leaves behind Martha, his beloved wife of over forty-nine years, son, Mike of Decatur, daughter, Susan Lawlor and husband Patrick of St. Louis, and grandchildren, Hailey McNamara of Chatham, and PJ, Joseph, Matthew, and Beth Lawlor of St. Louis.
Mike was reunited in Heaven with his parents, brother, Jerry, grandson, Jake McNamara, and many relatives and friends.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the people that knew and loved Mike for their true friendship and to the nurses and staff at Lincoln Manor for their patient and professional care over the last nine years.
