Beverly Louise Speer-Holland, a resident of Palatine for 20 years, was born May 25, 1947 in Mattoon, Ill., to the late Lester Washburn and Edith (Morgan) Curtis and passed away on Aug. 14, 2011 in Phoenix, Arizona surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard, of Queen Creek, Arizona; dear sister Barbara (Mike) Clark of Crystal Lake; 4 nephews and 3 nieces.
She was preceded in death by her step-father, Dale Curtis; her sister, Suzy Guthrie; and her brothers David and Neal Curtis.
Beverly attended Mattoon, Ill., elementary schools and graduated in 1965 from Mattoon High School. In 1971, she earned her RN and Bachelor’s Degree from Millikin University. In 1980 she was awarded her Master’s Degree in Education from Ball State University.
She enjoyed her career as an RN, working as an ER and Critical Care nurse. She was employed most of her working life by the Veteran’s Administration, serving in several capacities, the most recent as Director of Education, Jesse Brown Medical Center, Chicago, IL.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palatine, IL and a soprano in the Chancel Choir. Her artistic talents not only included a beautiful singing voice, but also a flair for decorating and numerous types of crafts, including quilting, knitting and crocheting. She loved a good book, spending time solving Sudoku puzzles and lately trying to win at Scrabble online.
She recently relocated to the Phoenix area. A small remembrance service was held there.
