Howard Kenneth Freeland, 84, of Danville, died at 9:55 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Provena USMC.
Ken was born July 29, 1926, in Danville, to Arthur Clyde and Lizzie Elliott Byerly Freeland. He attended Garfield Grade School, graduated from DHS in 1944 and graduated from Millikin University in Decatur in 1951 with a degree in accounting.
He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII. He had worked for General Motors Central Foundry accounting department for 10 years. He also worked for Lauhoff Grain and Bunge as an accounting supervisor retiring in 1990. He was a member of the former Lincoln Methodist Church and the current First United Methodist Church where he had served as treasurer for 10 years and as a board member.
He enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, the Dallas Cowboys, Illini Football and Basketball and yard work. He loved spending time with his family and cooking steaks.
Ken married Phyllis Ann Warburton on Sept. 12, 1953, at Danville Lincoln Methodist Church by Rev. Harvey Dibrell and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Kevin (Sarah) Freeland , Brian (Sherry) Freeland and Gregory (Sherry) Freeland ; 10 grandchildren, Tad Freeland , Erin Wells, Anna Freeland , Ruby Freeland , Justin Smith, Lauren Smith, Kenneth Freeland , Morgan Piper, Kylan Freeland and Lainey Freeland ; three great-grandchildren: Thomas Wells, Taylor Wells and Logan Freeland ; and a brother, James (Virginia) Freeland .
