Marie Elaina Harwood, 69, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 10, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on June 11, 1942, at St. Mary's Hospital in Syracuse, NY, a daughter of Albert & Margaret Herbert Connors. After graduating from Millikin University in Decatur, IL, she became a teacher with the Central Square Central School District, where she taught thirty-five years as a primary teacher at Brewerton Elementary.
Marie loved gardening, sewing, reading, and supporting numerous charitable and youth organizations. She was a member of St. Michael's Church, the Central Square Teacher's Association, and enjoyed time with her friends as a member of the Twilight Stitchers quilt guild and the Red Hot Divas Red Hat Society. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her nine grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her husband, Donald; four children, Beth & Jim Loforte, Don & Anne Harwood, Alice-Anne Harwood, and Michael & Laura Harwood; nine grandchildren, Marissa, Kylie, Scott, Hannah, Chloe, Liam, Jami, Finley and Lilla; a sister, Donna & Greg Roberts; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Raymond Mellen, in January of 1967.
