Steven Lee Hardwick, 68, of Peoria, died at home at 8:02 am on Aug. 21, 2012. He was born on Feb. 19, 1944, in Decatur, Ill; the only child of Harold "Butch" and Bernice (Grace) Hardwick.

Hardwick was a 1962 graduate of Lakeview High School in Decatur where he served as Senior Class President. He graduated from Millikin University, in Decatur, in 1966 with a degree in Marketing, and again in 1968 with a degree in Accounting. He was a founding father of the Millikin chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. After his time at Millikin, he continued his education at the University of California at Berkeley, San Francisco State University, Illinois Central College and Bradley University.

Mr. Hardwick was an Accountant at Caterpillar Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 2002. After his retirement he worked as a stocker at Menards for 5 years. He was a lifelong enthusiast of Quarter Horses including breeding, training, racing and showing them. He won the horsemanship class at the Illinois State Fair at age nine and was the youngest to have ever won it. He also enjoyed racing Corvettes throughout the 1960s, and continued to restore and enjoy automobiles during his lifetime. He also collected "full bottles" of beer and had approximately 3000 bottles starting from the 1930s. His collection is believed to be one of the largest in the world. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of The Scottish Rite Bodies.

Surviving is his only child; Sean Lee Hardwick of New York, New York.
