Chevy Chase, MD. Betty J. "Betsy" (Taylor) Baldwin, 90, passed away at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Chevy Chase, MD, after a long illness. Betty was born March 19, 1922 in Effingham, IL, to Paul and Ruby (Adams) Taylor.
Known as Betsy by most of her friends, she attended Millikin University in Decatur, IL where she was a member of TriDelt sorority. Before moving to Chevy Chase in 2009 to be near her daughter, she lived in Texas, England and Plattsburgh, NY, and several other postings as an Air Force wife.
In the 1970's Betsy received her B.A. and M.A. in history, and her Master of Library Science degree, and worked as a librarian for about a decade at several schools and colleges in Plattsburgh, NY. She loved genealogy, and was active in local history organizations and wrote several articles for historical journals. In 1997 Betsy moved to San Antonio, TX to live at Air Force Village retirement community, where she was active in the Protestant Chapel Choir and craft clubs.
She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips in retirement, including a week-long cruise to Alaska with family members in 2002. She cherished visits this past year from all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betsy is survived by her son, Kim Baldwin and his wife, Holly of Plattsburgh, NY; her daughter, Leslie Baldwin and her husband, Kenneth Eng of Cabin John, MD; her daughter, Heidi Hassinger of Plattsburgh, NY; and her daughter-in-law, Claudia Baldwin of Branchport, NY. She also leaves three beloved grandchildren, Vanessa Rumsey, Chad Hassinger and Troy Hassinger; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Gretchen Miiller, Dakota, Dylan and Taylor Rumsey; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her brother, Paul Taylor, Jr. of Effingham, IL; her sister-in-law, Jessie Harris of Decatur, IL; and her brother-in-law, Roger Baldwin and his wife, Evalyn of Oklahoma City, OK.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Donald C. Baldwin in 1995, by her son, Jon Baldwin in 2010, and by her sister, Shirley Claar in July 2012.
