John T. "Jack" Coventry Sr., 83, of Chillicothe passed away Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, Ill.
Born July 11, 1929, in Decatur, Ill., the son of Elmer K. and Sophia Mary (Carroll) Coventry, he married Virginia M. Walser on May 16, 1953, in Decatur, IL.
John graduated from St. Teresa High School in Decatur, Ill., and received his bachelor of science degree from Millikin University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and former Commander of the American Legion Post No. 9. He was a past president and life member of the Peoria Casting Club. He enjoyed working on his family's genealogy.
Surviving are his children, John T. Coventry Jr. of Houston, Texas, Janet L. (Donald) Bryant of Peoria, Ill., Douglas A. (Hope) Coventry of Chillicothe, Denis M. (Dawn) Coventry of Chillicothe and James F. (Kelly Taylor) Coventry of Springfield, Ill.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Marie Adams of Chillicothe. Also surviving are one sister, Carole Doyle of San Diego, Calif.; and two brothers, David (Cheryl) Coventry of Decatur, Ill., and Mark (Kathy) Coventry of St. Charles, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two sisters and one brother.
