Born March 29, 1914 in Jacksonville, and passed away in Bal Harbour, Fla., Tuesday, June 12, 2012, daughter of James E. and Adeline Smith Rawlings.
Mrs. Lewis completed her undergraduate studies at MacMurray College, received a graduate degree from Millikin University and continued graduate work at the University of Illinois. She also taught school for several years in Waverly and New Berlin before teaching 34 years in the Springfield public school system. Mrs. Lewis was an accomplished vocalist, performing for many years in central Illinois.
Mrs. Lewis is survived by wo daughters, Rebecca Linney of Cape Neddick, Maine, and Rowena Gerber, of Bal Harbour, Fla.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by grandson, Christopher L. Linney of Maine; brother, Wendell Rawlings of Jacksonville; and sister, Genevieve Brown of Waverly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy.
