George Jordan, 67, of Mt. Auburn, died on Friday, August 6, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born on November 17, 1942 in Florida the son of Marietta B. McDaniel. George attended Northern Illinois University and was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University with a degree in poitical science. He worked for Millikin’s grounds department for approximately 20 years, starting in 1976. He also had worked for DCFS, the governor’s office under Governor Dan Wlaker. George’s love of trees was unmatched except for mother nature herself.
He was preceded in death by his mother and his only son Benjamin A. Jordan. He is survived by his wife, Barb; daughters, Mindy ’86 and Mattie Jordan; stepson, Brandon (Carole) Johnson; stepdaughters, Jessica Johnson and Danah (companion, Garret) Maddox; and five grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or plant and nurture a tree. Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 N. 5th St., Springfield, IL 62502 is in charge of arrangements.

Jordan was remembered fondly by many MU alumni including Joe Coffey ’83 who said, “George was a wonderful ambassador for MU and helped many MU students navigate the maze of higher ed. and growing up. To George... Deep peace and thanks for the music, the books, the laughs, the guidance. You are loved!”
Coffey also organized a life celebration for George Jordan on Sept. 17, 2010, at Lock, Stock & Barrel.
