Glenn spent his early adolescent years in Moberly, Missouri, where his interest in scouting, camping, hunting, fishing, and all out-of-doors activities began. Moving back to Decatur, he graduated from Decatur High School in 1947 and attended Millikin University, where he earned a B.S. degree in Industry. He entered the U.S. Army in 1951, and served for two years during the Korean Conflict. After teaching Industrial Arts for three years at Petersburg Junior-Senior High School, and earning an M.S. degree at Bradley University, he taught at Wilmington College in Ohio before moving to Macomb with his young family in 1957 to continue his teaching career at Western Illinois University.

Glenn taught Industrial Arts in the WIU Laboratory School from 1957 through 1973, then taught Machine Metals and OSHA in WIU's Industrial Education and Technology Department until his retirement in 1989. Glenn not only was an educator, but served in volunteer leadership roles in the educational community. He was a scout master at Petersburg Junior-Senior High School, and served as a co-advisor of the WIU Laboratory School's Explorer Scout post with his friend and colleague Dr. Maurice Kellogg. Glenn also served as an advisor to WIU's Mu Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity for 25 years.

In his personal time, Glenn used his skills and knowledge to repair and refinish a wide variety of firearms. For more than 50 years, he did repair work for several gun shops and many customers throughout West Central Illinois.

Glenn is survived by Barbara and their four children, Karen J. Houck, Susan (John) Boehme, Marsha (John) Spinella, and G. Richard (Karen) Houck, Jr., grandsons Barkley, Cameron, Dalton and Evan Houck, and John R. and Anthony Spinella. He also is survived by four nieces.
