Robert Amos Edwards '68, 65, of Carbondale, formerly of Hillsboro, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 5:15 p.m. at Memorial Hospital, Carbondale.
Born Feb. 18, 1946, at Hillsboro, he was the son of the late Kenneth B. and Mary Edith (Johnson) Edwards. He married Barbara Blake Feb. 1, 1992, at the Methodist Church in Auburn, and she survives.
Mr. Edwards lived his life in Hillsboro and Carbondale. He was a graduate of Hillsboro High School and took banking educational classes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in Pakistan. He was a farmer and loan officer at several banks in the area. Mr. Edwards loved to travel, play music in local bands, and farm. He was a past member of Rotary and Sertoma, and the United Methodist Church, Hillsboro.
Survivors include his children, Beth Edwards of Peoria, Matt Edwards of Chicago, Holly (husband John) Campbell of Coffeen, Candice (husband Tim) Caveny of Mascoutah, and Stephanie (husband Cory) Hillard of Streator; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Julia (husband Robert) Sanks of Athens, GA.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Blake.
