Jodi Lynn Harrison, 47, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Barrington Hospice in Barrington. She was relieved of her pain and suffering after a courageous, four-month battle with colon cancer.
Jodi was a beautiful, highly intelligent and beloved person and will be sorely and forever missed and remembered.
Jodi was born Aug. 23, 1964, in Grand Forks, N.D., to Laurel and the late David Peterson. The family moved to Streamwood in 1973. She graduated from Streamwood High School in 1982, where she was an excellent student and outstanding athlete. Upon graduation, she was honored by being named to the Streamwood High School Athletes Hall of Fame.
Jodi attended Millikin University, where she graduated with a degree in marketing and business in 1986. She then was employed in a highly successful career with Cingular Wireless. However, her love for education and teaching brought her back to an academic career. She returned to university, earning a master's degree in math education at National Lewis University.
Jodi began teaching mathematics at Cary-Grove High School District 155 in 2006. She was embraced and loved by both her students and the staff for her teaching excellence and her magnetic personality. Jodi taught with passion and loved her life at Cary-Grove.
Jodi was an excellent athlete and instilled her love of activity and the outdoors in her two sons. With them she golfed, bicycled, rollerbladed, camped, hiked, played tennis and took karate lessons with Noah. She also completed two half marathons in Chicago.
Jodi leaves two wonderful boys to whom she was totally devoted, Michael Jr. and Noah. Their father, Michael Sr., remains at home with them. She also is survived by her mother, Laurel A. Feldman; her stepfather, Dr. Edgar A. Feldman of Barrington; a sister, Debra (Sonny) Ngadiuba; a brother, Jeffrey Peterson; her stepbrothers, Robert (Dawn) and Steven (Krista) Feldman; her stepsisters, Laura (Mike) Iosue and Sue (Pius) Feldman-Weibelplus; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Cliff Mirman of DeKalb.
Jodi was preceded in death by her father; her four grandparents; and five cousins.
