Glenn L. Branson age 90 of Gibson City died at 12:25 p.m. Saturday Feb. 11, 2012 at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Gibson City. Mr. Branson was born Jan. 2, 1922 in Decatur a son of Clarence O. and Faye M. Jones Branson. He married Azalea Jane Perry on Apr. 5, 1947 in Saybrook. She preceded him in death in 1994. Surviving is a son Van Branson of Duluth, MN and a brother Robert Branson of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by a son Mark. Glenn was educated in the Decatur schools graduating from Decatur High School in 1940. Glenn served in the US Army from 1942 until discharge in 1945. He served more than 30 months in the Southwest Pacific in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He received four bronze stars for service in these areas. He graduated from Millikin University in 1948. He later received his masters degree from the University of Illinois in American history. He began his teaching career in 1948. From 1948 until 1957 he taught at Marseilles High School. He coached the junior high school basketball and track teams. 2 of his basketball teams finished second and third in state tournaments. His track team won the state heavyweight meet. Glenn retired from teaching in 1957 and he and Jane moved to Missouri. After Jane died he moved to Galva and later to Gibson City.
