Jean West

Jean S. West, 86, of Findlay died at 2:07 a.m. Saturday (April 28, 2012) at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur. Reed Funeral Home in Sullivan is in charge of the arrangements. She was born June 23, 1925, in Decatur, the daughter of Russell and Bertha Nickey Shaffer. She married Robert West in 1950; he died in 2008. Survivors include one son, Alan West of Oreana; one daughter, Jane West-Goes of Oconomowoc, Wisc.; one brother, Dean Shaffer of Carmi; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one brother and one grandson. Mrs West was formerly employed as a flight instructor. She was a member of the Soaring Society of America, Sport Flying Association of America, Antique Airplane Association, Civil Air Patrol in Decatur, Experimental Aircraft Association, and Order of the Eastern Star. Memorials may be made to the Airpower Museum in Ottumwa, Iowa.
