Cheryl L. Dykstra, 60, of Mendota died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore.
Born Sept. 19, 1949, in Kewanee to Robert E. Guida (Abbott) Grubb, she married Dale Dykstra June 5, 1971, in the Buda Methodist Church.
She was a graduate of Western High School in Buda. She received a registered nurse degree from Decatur and Macon County School of Nursing, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Millikin University in Decatur and a Master of Science in nursing from Penn State University. She was an instructor at Penn State for 14 years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was also an elder and deacon, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir and the choir director. She was also a member of the Tres Dias organization of Rockford, Elks Lodge 1212 in Mendota and the Decatur Memorial Alumni Association.
Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Dale Dykstra; one daughter, Rachel (Jared) Crew of Oglesby; one son, David of Cocoa, Fla.; one sister, Janet (Jack) Becker of Princeton; four brothers, Donald (”Arkie”) Grubb of Buda, Dr. Richard (Audrey) Grubb of Pittsburgh, Pa., Stanley (Ann) Grubb of Danville and Dr. Stephen (Lisa) Grubb of Christiansburg, Va.; five grandchildren, Matthew Brilhante, Dominic Dykstra, Sasha and Trustin Crew, and Hannah Dykstra; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
