Mt. Pleasant, SC
James Walter Hansen, 82, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Maryann Armstrong Hansen died Tuesday, December 11, 2012.
Mr. Hansen was born August 6, 1930 in Decatur, Illinois, son of the late Walter Olaf Hansen and Elinor Allen Hansen. He was an Electronics Engineer, having worked on communications systems for the Gemini and Apollo missions including bringing back Neil Armstrong's voice.
Mr. Hansen also assisted in the first live international Olympics broadcast from Japan. In addition, he worked on military aircraft radar and electronic communications. His passion was being a private pilot, and he was a member of the Etiwan Masonic Lodge, and of Christ Church.
He is survived by his wife, Maryann Hansen of Mount Pleasant, SC; his daughters, Margaret Herlihy and her husband, Anthony of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Beth Hansen of Easton, MD; his grandchildren, Christopher Armstrong Cather of Torrance, CA, Connor Herlihy of Mount Pleasant, SC, and Megan Herlihy of Mount Pleasant, SC; and his brothers, Don Hansen and his wife, JoAnne of Conway, AR, and Allen Hansen and his wife, Dana of Decatur, IL.
