Harold (“Hal”) Allaire Laurence, III, 84 of Lansing, Kansas, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the University of Kansas Hospital from complications after a heart attack and bypass surgery.
Hal was born January 29, 1926 in Dallas, Texas, the son of Harold Allaire and Maude Lillian (Powell) Laurence, II. He is survived by his son Harold Allaire Laurence, IV and wife Karen and their children Harold, Heather, David and Emily of Lansing. He is also survived by daughter Katherine Ann Laurence and many good friends in the Chicago area and in Lansing. He was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Adeline (Laurence) Hill.
Hal served in World War II, European Theater, Army Infantry, including the Battle of the Bulge and the Bridge at Remagen. After the war, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in marketing from Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois. He had a successful career in the Chicago area as a copywriter in the insurance industry.
Hal was an avid skeet shooter and lifetime member of Northbrook Sports Club, Hainsville, Illinois. He also developed and patented an innovative design of footwear for skeet shooters. Hal was a wonderful dad, grandpa, and friend who will be greatly missed.
