Welcome to our excellent college!
The faculty members in the College of Arts & Sciences at Millikin University have a two-fold goal at the center of all they do:
- to challenge students to grow intellectually and personally through an education rooted in the timeless liberal arts, and
- to help students prepare for future success in their personal and professional lives in ways that only a small comprehensive university can provide.
To achieve these goals for their students, our faculty members:
- offer classes, supervise student research, and support clubs and academic societies in the social sciences (communication, political science, and behavioral sciences that include psychology, sociology and human services), natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and computer science), and the humanities (English, modern languages, history and philosophy).
- provide the breadth and depth of coverage within the academic disciplines to allow students to explore the rich spectrum of the liberal arts and gain skills in communication, inquiry, and analysis that will help them meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
- encourage students to identify interests for detailed study, research projects, internships, international travel and study, and an almost limitless variety of other opportunities and adventures.
- take advantage of our small size to learn the interests and needs of individual students and provide the personal attention and guidance students need to identify and prepare for their professional careers.
In addition to faculty who will work with students to identify and reach their goals in life, Millikin University has a friendly atmosphere, a beautiful campus, and a location in the historic West End of Decatur, Illinois, that provides educational and social opportunities that enrich the college experience for its students.
