Learning Goals
Demonstrate an understanding of current teaching methods and learning theories, as well as their philosophical foundations and historical origins.
Demonstrate the ability to deliver instruction successfully to diverse groups of students, and in a variety of musical contexts, using currently available materials and technologies.
Plan instruction, evaluate its effectiveness using formal and informal assessment strategies, and reflect on the efficacy of their teaching.
Snapshot
The assessment report will provide a brief overview of our curricula, facilities, and faculty/staff.
The Learning Story
The report will include a curriculum map as well as the sequence and strategy of how the School of Music will meet these goals.
Assessment Methods
Grades from student’s philosophy statements that assess his/her articulation of a well-supported and coherent philosophy of education based on current teaching methods and theories.
Ratings from Student Teaching Evaluations.
Assessing the student’s plan for instruction as part of a school based teaching practicum and a subsequent reflection on its effectiveness in a detailed journal.
Assessment Data
The report will include the resulting data on key learning outcomes.
Analysis of Assessment Results
The report will analyze the results from our assessment methods and rate the quality and effectiveness of both the data collected and methodology.
Improvement Plans
The report will assess and make recommendations regarding the overall quality of student learning in this area, indicating both strengths and weaknesses. Discussion and development of improvement plans will take place in departmental meetings and at the School of Music annual May Retreat.
