American Cancer Society and Millikin University
Team Up For Coaches vs. Cancer Program

2006-07 Champion - Crown Toyota
The American Cancer Society and the Millikin University Big Blue basketball teams have teamed up to help further the research in the battle against cancer. Coaches vs. Cancer is a community-funded program designed to reduce youth risk of cancer by focusing on research, advocacy, prevention and early detection, education and patient services of the American Cancer Society. Please help us continue to fight and prepare to overcome this battle. In eight years, Millikin's Coaches vs. Cancer efforts have raised more than $144,835 for the American Cancer Society. The program continues to be very effective in sparking action not only in the Decatur community, but also through donations from the Big Blue's competitors and local school teams.

In 2007, Coaches vs. Cancer at Millikin University raised over $22,000, once again exceeding its goal. Dollars raised were through corporate partnerships with area businesses participating as either a team or through in-kind donations. This year's effort culminated in a 3-hour 3-point shootout on Feb. 11 that included more than 50 teams. Crown Toyota won the 2007 title. For the last two years, Millikin women's basketball players have done their part to aid cancer patients. Tracie Yantis (2006) and Ally James (2007, pictured above) cut off at least 10 inches of their long hair in front of the packed house, donating it to Locks of Love.
