Coach's Corner

Carmel apples, intrasquad scrimmage, Guy Fawkes bonfire…what a busy week!  The team continues to make progress, and is getting closer and closer to our opening games (less than two weeks away now).

Athlete's Corner

Name:  Tracie Yantis

Year:  Sophomore

Hometown: Findlay , IL

High School:  Okaw Valley High School

Major:  Athletic Training

Interesting facts:  I have three older brothers, I live on a pig farm and I have a pet raccoon named Goober.

The blue/white intrasquad scrimmage was great!

By using two courts simultaneously, we were able to allow

everyone an opportunity to participate in a

live-game situation (game clock, shot clock, scoreboard).

Hannah and Zach brought the makings of apple lollipops (caramel apples) and the team got to make their own concoctions (both in celebration of Halloween and Guy Fawkes day).

Carol and Dave Rayhill (Ally James’ grandparents) opened their home and backyard to host the second annual bonfire for the team and their families.  Roasting hotdogs, making s’mores, and sharing in lots of homemade desserts highlighted the party, which happened to also be a celebration of Grandma Rayhill’s birthday (29 again right Carol?).

One of the traditions shared this year at the bonfire, honored the heritage of sophomore Rachel Almond (from the Isle of Wight in England).  Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Bonfire Night, is a national tradition in England celebrated on November 5.  At the conclusion of practice on Friday, the team taste-tested Yorkshire Parkin and Rachel shared the following poem:

Remember, remember, the fifth of November,

Gunpowder Treason and Plot,

I see no reason why gunpowder treason

should ever be forgot.
