Coach's Corner

We are all so excited that opening week has finally arrived.  We will host the 7th annual Coaches vs. Cancer tournament here at Millikin University.  The opponents for this year include Webster University (St. Louis, MO), which has participated in our Coaches vs. Cancer tournament since its inception, and Marygrove College (an NAIA institution from Detroit, Michigan).

The Coaches vs. Cancer tournament mirrors the national Coaches vs. Cancer weekend and is a great opportunity to utilize college basketball to raise awareness, educate, and maintain a focus on cancer prevention and treatment.  In February, Millikin University partners with the American Cancer Society to create a one-day Coaches vs. Cancer shootout to raise funds to support the efforts of our local community.  The 05-06 shootout raised over $31,000 bringing our 8-year total to over $140,000.  Additional information can be found on our website at www.millikin.edu/athletics/cvc

The Millikin WBB Junior Varsity team is excited to begin play, with 25 JV games scheduled over the course of the season.  www.millikin.edu/athletics/schedule

The JV program allows an important opportunity for competition, growth, and development for our freshmen and sophomores (who are not logging significant varsity minutes).  The JV squad opens this weekend with a game at Lakeland (Mattoon, IL) vs. John Wood Community College (Quincy, IL).

After earning first-team All-CCIW and d3hoops.com All-Region honors for her record-setting sophomore season in 2005-06, junior, captain Lindsay Ippel (Decatur, St. Teresa) has been selected as a 4th team d3hoops.com Preseason All-American for 2006-07.   Way to go Lindsay!!
